Yes of course, and there shouldn't be. While it would be a nice thing for distributions to support officially, I don't think everybody would want the overhead (and thus inconvenience) of such a level of security (integrity checking is expensive). This is a service system operators offer to their VM users.

It would be nice for them to be able to verify that the chain of trust isn't broken, I just don't see a practical solution.
