Archos confirmed to me that they don't have source code for their RK2818-based models at the moment, which means the 7" home tablet (version 2) and the Arnova range all appear to be infringing. For a company that is actually on the better end of the scale for compliance, that's somewhat disheartening. My understanding is that the Arnova and "home tablet" ranges (as opposed to the "internet tablet" range) are subcontracted or rebadging exercises, so there's probably less corporate oversight than for the internally developed hardware. This is, obviously, not an excuse.

Did they give you any answer about plans to make the source available and stop infringing, or just a big FU?

"We'll let you know when there are any updates" kind of thing. But this is tech support rather than any policy maker, so there's basically no way to know whether they're actually desperately trying to sort it out or don't really care. In their favour, they're the only vendor I know of who managed to get rk2808 source code released in a useful way.

Archos is listed as an official partner now on Rockchip's webpage: http://www.rock-chips.com/index.php?do=page&&id=4&type=2&p=1

It would be difficult to imagine that Archos is unaware of its obligations for the GPL.

You could try to contact 4g-systems (www.4g-systems.com) in germany. they produce a very similar rk2818 based tablet like the archos home tablet v2. it is called "xst2" or "onetab". They released sources for their other linux based products.
