Many BIOS bugs actually turn out to be from code given to the BIOS vendor by the chipset or platform vendor. These bugs get fixed, and the fixed versions get made available to motherboard companies, but you'll still often find that there's no fixed version available. So even with vendor cooperation, we'd still probably end up needing to work around the bugs.
