The thing is, they want to carry on using GPLed code - they're all shipping Linux! Right now they want to just replace the actively litigated GPLed code in order to carry on using the kernel with less fear of a lawsuit. If they were suggesting moving wholesale to liberal licenses then I'd have no objection, but it's just a cynical ploy to do the bare minimum to avoid being sued.
