Well I could remember wrong, but what I remember from reading the original Wrt54G sources, it was pretty much directly from an taiwanese OEM/ODM company (gemtek?) which in turn was only slightly modified from the broadcom reference designs. There was not much evidence that linksys itself had done much more than the plastic shell of the wrt54g.
