But this is impractical. Instead of downloading a free antivirus program to cure a virus, Windows users now have to spend $99 at the geek squad to turn on their computers. It makes no sense to lock a person out. Why can't I just restart the computer with the network plug removed? It is MY computer, isn't it? A simple warning on boot would be sufficient. This could be more about large copyright holders maintaining control than security. A brief history of Microsoft should make a reasonable person suspicious.
