The statistics that Ted was responding to were quoted here. They weren't being mentioned in the context of the probability of a rape happening at the conference. They were being mentioned in the context of the percentage of the audience who were likely to have been sexually assaulted or raped. So in terms of demonstrating that the statistics are irrelevant, you have two options. You can argue that they don't apply, in which case you need to demonstrate that the population of Linux developers is markedly different in this respect to the average population. Or you can argue that the statistics are false to begin with. Ted chose the latter.
