You're not being offensive so much as obtuse. Someone in a community that is going around making statements like this needs to be called out within that community, if the situation isn't going to become horribly toxic. Just because the toxicity is of a nature that doesn't affect you because of your gender identity is not a reason to try and silence the discussion.
