In my notebook's case, I'd have to disable Secure Boot to enable booting from CDROM, install Linux, then re-enable Secure Boot? Sounds like a lot of trouble to me. May as well just keep it disabled :-P
The trouble is there's no boot from CDROM option unless I first disable Secure Boot which is the only way to allow enabling Legacy boot devices.
I guess you're right that some systems may have the option of booting from CD without disabling Secure Boot. I wouldn't know since I've only ever seen this one particular machine.
