Interestingly enough, I finally found the OpenID option, and it was low-overhead enough, *EXCEPT* my OpenID provider is usually Launchpad, which does not work here (but a delegate does, and I had that set up already anyway).
The CAPTCHAs are also irritatingly vague (second number… in the display order or in size order?) but at least plaintext.
