Indeed. Out of 6 Ubuntu computers I manage, two ignore pressing the volume control keys. Another pathologically insisted that I wanted to use HDMI for audio and not the attached speakers, requiring me to change at every boot. Another gives me a blank screen on resume (known bug in Xubuntu for a while a now). Some automount SD cards, while others don't. There are a heck of these niggles that don't happen on Mac.
Apple has full control over the hardware and software, so of course you don't have those issues. Talk to the manufacturers of those computers about why they don't provided useful information to the Linux kernel developers.
