My understanding of the Red Hat situation is that it's basically the Fedora situation, except for the (entirely reprehensible) termination of subscription in the event of you redistributing unmodified binaries. I think this lessens Red Hat's authority in the free software community a great deal, but it's still better than Canonical's refusal to provide clarity.
