Hello I really wonder about this discussion. The problem is, that the manufacturers did not even tried to make their devices secure. Fixed passwords? 20 years ago - ok. Today? - Just let them pay the invoice. For example, if a device is misused in an attack, then the Manufacturer has to pay 10$ per sold device for the 1st attack. 20$ for the 2nd attack.
I'm pretty sure they'll follow basic security rules extremely fast and they will offer patches in no time.
It's extremely easy.
