That's completely fair! You're right, the focus should absolutely be on ensuring that the community achieves its goals, and doing so in a way that doesn't exclude people is (all else being equal) preferable to doing so in a way that does.

Even if it were, what makes you believe that everybody who hasn't "flipped" yet is going to find an universal "decision making process" agreeable?

I don't think they are, just as different communities have different ideas about what an acceptable code of conduct is. But in coming to that conclusion they're going to ask similar questions, and it's helpful to figure out what those questions should be at a wider level rather than forcing every community to invent the same tools independently.
