I wonder if forgiveness in the community can be a powerful tool as well. Perhaps education can be one tool for this, and, depending on the case, if someone demonstrates that they accept they have made a mistake or have crossed the line a bit, often they should be able to enter back into the community if they meet certain criteria. There are recent incidents where people have been banned from their software development communities, yet they don't have a good path to return in any way. Their actions may be due to lack of education or perspectives. Shouldn't there be a way for members of the community to return if they can acknowledge their mistake and demonstrate steps to not make it again, depending on the severity of the mistake?
