The exact same thought keeps me mildly angry during my waking hours. I bought a Lenovo Ideapad 1i, which essentially is a Windows attempt at a Chromebook. I tried to install Linux Mint 21.1 as a dual-boot, since the machine was intended for a spare/travel machine. While it accepted the linux install from a USB, it now will not boot Linux without a "shim". Whatever that is. The default is 'power on with lid switch', which makes it REALLY difficult to even try to get to the UEFI settings. Who the hell does MS think they are???
Online resources are scarce and vague, and I'm not that smart, so I'm tempted to remove the memory I added, and return it to Costco; leaving me with my aging W7-era laptop that needs another $80 battery again.
